Overview

AppBoost SMS Marketing is a channel for marketing and product teams to send text-message campaigns to contact lists or single numbers. It works with your own SMS provider, including Twilio and Amazon SNS, and supports deep-linked SMS that open a screen in your app and rich SMS that open a Micro Page.

The problem

Text messages send, but nothing links back to the app

A plain SMS reaches the phone but ends there. Without a link that opens the right screen, or a page for people who have not installed the app, you cannot tell what the message achieved.

Capabilities

What SMS Marketing includes

  • Bring your own provider

Connect an account with Amazon SNS, SMS Misr, Victory Link, SMS Global, SMS Country, Alfacell, Twilio, mobily.ws, Jormal or Messagat Saudi.

  • Contact list upload

Download the CSV template, add target list names, mobile numbers and user IDs, then upload. Each list carries a unique name for later targeting.

  • Bulk or single sends

On the delivery page, send to one specific mobile number or to a whole contact list, and set when the campaign goes out.

  • Deep-linked SMS

Use Appgain Short Links to drive a user to a specific page inside your app straight from the message.

  • Rich SMS with Micro Pages

Point the message to a Micro Page when the goal sits outside the app, such as a landing page for people without it.

  • Sender ID support

Display an alphanumeric or numeric sender identity so recipients recognize you. Appgain account managers can help with Sender ID setup.

  • Automation and personalization

Use SMS as a step in marketing automation flows, and add merge tags for names and order details in transactional messages.

  • Campaign performance

Open the Campaigns section, choose SMS Campaigns, and review the success ratio for each send.

From the Store area, open Contact Lists, download the CSV template, fill it in and upload it.

  4. 4

Frequently asked questions

SMS Marketing FAQ

Which SMS providers does AppBoost work with?
AppBoost supports Amazon SNS, SMS Misr, Victory Link, SMS Global, SMS Country, Alfacell, Twilio, mobily.ws, Jormal and Messagat Saudi. You need an account with one of them. Appgain account managers can also arrange SMS packages and Sender ID setup.
What do I need before I send my first SMS?
You need a Sender ID and an account with a supported provider. To get a Sender ID in a given country, your business must be registered there and submit a request to the mobile network providers. Then you add the provider details in Project Settings.
How do I connect Twilio?
Create a Twilio account and copy the Account SID and Auth Token, then get a sender number from the Sender Pool. In Project Settings, Advanced Setting, Platforms, choose SMS and the Twilio vendor, set the type to SMS-TWILIO and enter the values. The number must include the country code.
How long can an SMS be?
English messages are typically limited to 160 characters. Longer messages are split into several parts and reassembled on the recipient device. Keep the text and any link short so a single campaign message does not turn into multiple parts.
What is the difference between deep-linked and rich SMS?
Deep-linked SMS uses Appgain Short Links to open a specific page inside your app. Rich SMS uses Micro Pages to drive an action outside the app. Pick deep links for installed users and Micro Pages for everyone else.
How does SMS fit with other AppBoost channels?
SMS is one of the Omni-channels alongside push, web push, email and WhatsApp. Marketing automation can send SMS as part of a behavior-based flow, and short links and Micro Pages connect the message to the rest of AppBoost.
